Why Personalized Coaching?

edwell coaching sparks powerful
personal and professional growth, transforming educators’
work and lives for the better.

“K–12 workers have the highest rate of burnout in the American workforce, with more than 44 percent of K–12 workers in the U.S. reporting that they ‘always’ or ‘very often’ feel burned out at work.”

Gallup Poll

“District leaders should work with teachers and school leaders to design and implement a variety of mental health and wellness supports.”

Rand Report

Now, more than ever, educators need comprehensive, holistic support to be their professional and personal best.

Instructional coaching is valuable, but on its own it’s not sufficient to support our educators.

Educators are stressed and overwhelmed. More than one in four are contemplating leaving the profession, and 50 percent of black teachers say they plan to leave (Rand Report). Chronic educator absenteeism is on the rise (IES). Young people, many of whom are undergoing a mental health crisis themselves, need classroom leaders who are strong, empowered, motivated, and fulfilled.

We can address this crisis through personalized coaching, which helps all educators to build essential life and workplace skills, balance, and resilience.

Implementing personalized coaching alongside existing professional development is a powerful amplifier for growth and fulfillment, and leads to strong, sustainable schools.

By working with a trusted edwell peer coach, educators receive personalized support and guidance that will help them hone their social-emotional skills and learn new ways in which to apply them to their instructional practice and in their interpersonal relationships, both in and out of school. Continual improvement in these essential skills leads to better collaboration, increased confidence, and a more positive outlook.

FAQs About edwell Personalized Coaching

  • While edwell is not a licensed mental health provider, we do combine the best parts of therapy and coaching into one, in service of the whole educator’s wellbeing.

Our coaching sessions provide a safe space for educators to share their feelings openly and confidentially, and receive honest feedback and guidance. As in a traditional mental health session, educators may gain fresh insights and perspectives. They may also unearth difficult feelings or discuss traumatic experiences.

All of our coaches are experienced educators, and many also hold degrees in social work and psychology. However, personalized coaching is not intended as a replacement for professional medical care.

  • By developing confidence, skills, and strategies in all aspects of their lives, educators can expect to improve their overall professional practice. They can learn to overcome challenges that may be impeding them, such as issues with classroom management or difficulty embracing a new teaching philosophy. Personalized coaching works in harmony to enhance existing professional development efforts.

While personalized coaching often addresses strategies and issues that affect an educator’s instructional practice in the classroom, the main focus is on the teacher’s wellbeing.

  • Personalized coaching is not a “one and done” solution. Although an educator may feel better after even the first session, adapting one’s mindset, setting new goals, and adjusting the way we approach work and life is not a linear process. It sometimes takes deep reflection and hard work to see real, impactful change. To get the most out of edwell personalized coaching, we recommend that educators commit to at least 6 sessions.

“Now, more than ever, supporting educator well-being is critical for retaining our current educators and staff…stress is the most common reason educators have cited for leaving school employment.”

—U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel A. Cardona, Ed.D.
